Matakana Retreat A perfect escape.
Matakana Retreat is an off-grid eco-retreat on 50 acres of native bush, seven minutes from Matakana village and an hour north of Auckland. Guests choose between a Scandinavian eco-lodge, an African safari glamping tent and a refurbished Airstream.
What it does.
The site has to sell a feeling of being somewhere else, then get out of the way so people can check dates and book.
Three stays, one search
Each stay has its own page, and availability is checked across all three at once, so guests find a free night without hopping between calendars.
Experiences on the side
Wellness treatments, the forest sauna and a guided native forest medicine walk are booked online alongside a stay.
The off-grid story
Solar power, rainwater and native bush are part of the appeal, so the site tells that story with film and photography rather than a feature list.
Built on Astro
Pages ship as static HTML from the CDN, which is why the site loads quickly even on a patchy rural connection.
The desk behind the bookings
Experience bookings come in live from Cal.com and Stripe. Cards are held at booking and only charged from the desk, walk-ins and phone bookings go in alongside online ones, and vouchers and analytics sit in the same place.
More on apps & dashboards
On every screen.
Laid out for each screen rather than squeezed onto it: the same site on a tablet and a phone, with the navigation, type and images reworked for the space.
Measured, not claimed.
A 97 for mobile performance and top marks for accessibility, with SEO and GEO both in the nineties.
